At our school, we value learning as a life-long activity for all.

At St. Bernard’s First School, we aim to fully develop all aspects of each child by providing a wide range of challenging opportunities.  We expect the highest standards in everything we do to enable everyone in the school community to succeed.  We believe that children should be taught in a well-managed, stimulating, secure and happy environment where they are able to interact with others and be good communicators.

Children learn at different rates and have different abilities.  They learn by seeing and doing.  They need tasks, which are carefully matched to their ability and appropriate expectations made in order for them to reach their full potential.

Independence is encouraged in all aspects of school life.  We have high expectations of everyone in the school community and will encourage them to have high expectations of themselves.  Everyone should take responsibility for his or her actions, learning and behaviour.  All work must be valued and everybody treated with care, concern and respect. There is equality of opportunity for all and a partnership between parents, staff and outside agencies in an open, friendly, caring atmosphere.
